A small side table in solid oak and natural Danish cord. The 'Ruth' side table is designed with books and coffee in mind. The solid oak top provides a hand-height surface when seated for resting a cup of coffee or tea. The top surface has been finished with a hard-wax oil for durability and to show off the swirling grain pattern. The legs and frame are finished in linseed oil to bring out the rich tones of the wood and enhance the natural shimmering rays in the oak. The lower book shelf is woven in natural Danish cord for a contrasting texture and additional functionality.

After a 21 year career in civil and environmental engineering, I decided to take a giant leap into the unknown to explore my creative instincts. I enrolled on a week-long introductory woodworking course in East Lothian and immediately knew fine furniture and woodworking was the life change I was looking for. Three years, much saving and two covid lock-downs later, I went back to school as a full-time student at the Chippendale International School of Furniture.
The professional course has been challenging and intense but equally rewarding and I haven't looked back. As a graduate I have now established Eskwood Furniture as a small business making bespoke hand-crafted furniture based at Myreside Studios in East Lothian. I recently completed my very first commission and with others under way I'm excited to be designing and creating unique furniture for my customers. So far I have worked on pieces for homes in Haddington, Leith, Glasgow, London and Alaska! I'm looking forward to expanding this list in 2024.
I have a meticulous approach to my work and take great care over every detail from the use of natural materials to functional design and careful execution. Please take a look at a selection of my work and I would be delighted to hear from you to discuss bringing your ideas to life.
Home is in the heart of Roslin Glen in Scotland. The history of Roslyn Chapel and the surrounding ancient woodland provide an endless stream of creative inspiration.
